Five more Indians are included in the Men’s ODI Team of 2023, with Rohit Sharma named captain by the ICC.
Up to six Indian players make up the ODI Team of the Year 2023, captained by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who was selected captain by the International Cricket Council on January 23.
World Champions Australia and South Africa, who each had two cricket players named in the team, are the only two sides with more than one participant; all-rounder Daryl Mitchell is the lone representative from New Zealand.
The other Indians in the team were spinner Kuldeep Yadav, pacers Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami, and hitters Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill. Rohit Sharma was not one of them.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma had a tremendous year in 2023, amassing 1,255 runs at an average of 52. Throughout the whole ODI World Cup last year, he was playing at his peak.
After Sharma, Virat Kohli broke all previous records in 2023, reaching three digits six times. In addition, during the World Cup, Kohli eclipsed the record held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar of India for the most international hundreds while winning the Player of the Tournament title.
Thanks to their outstanding 2023 campaigns, India’s bowlers Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav were selected for the ICC squad. Shubman Gill was also included on the list, having scored 1,584 runs in the year.
The other players in the team are South Africa batsman Heinrich Klaasen, New Zealand great Daryl Mitchell, and Australian opener Travis Head. Australia’s Adam Zampa and South Africa’s Marco Jansen are both spinners.
