Indian men’s hockey group captain Harmanpreet Singh has said the group entered “the last phases of a serious preparation block” in their groundwork for the Paris Olympics.

As 75 days are left for the beginning of the Paris 2024 Olympics, where the Indian men’s hockey group will take the field at the Yves-du-Manior Arena in a mission to end the 44-year gold decoration dry spell, captain Harmanpreet Singh has said the group entered “the last phases of an extraordinary preparation block” in their groundwork for the marque occasion. India needs to beat the ruling Olympic Bosses Belgium (World No. 2), Australia (World No. 3), Argentina (World No. 7), New Zealand (World No. 10), and Ireland (World No. 11) in Pool B to get a main-four finish in the pool and advance to the quarterfinals.

In the mean time, Pool A contains the world’s highest-level group, the Netherlands, followed by Germany, extraordinary England, Spain, South Africa, and hosts France, making way for an extreme fight in the 12-group men’s hockey competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

India will start their mission on July 27 against New Zealand, followed by a match against Argentina on July 29, followed by Ireland and Belgium on July 30 and August 1. They will play their last gathering stage game against Australia on August 2.

“We are in the last phases of a serious preparation block at this moment. The group has dealt with the areas we felt required consideration after the visit through Australia. Before long, we will go to Europe to play some fundamental matches in the FIH Hockey Ace Association 2023/24 to test ourselves against a few extreme rivals like Argentina, Belgium, and Germany.

India has a rich history of playing hockey at the Olympics. They won their most memorable Gold Decoration subsequent to beating the Netherlands 3-0 in the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam and proceeded to rule, winning Gold Awards in the 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964, and 1980 Olympics.

Notwithstanding their 8 gold decorations, India guaranteed a silver award in 1960 and 3 bronze awards in 1968, 1972, and the past Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, making them the best men’s hockey group in the Olympics with 12 decorations.
